ABCD (Best 3 of 4 Balls)

Format (At a Glance)

  • Teams: 4-man team
  • Holes: 18 holes
  • Team Score: Best 3 net scores (of the 4 net scores) count on each hole
  • Tees: Play the tee box you signed up for in Week 1
  • Individual Skins (by tee group):

Handicap Allowance

  • Event Handicap: 100% of each player’s Men’s Club Course Handicap
  • Allowances follow USGA recommendations for this format
  • Must have a Men’s Club Handicap (minimum 3 rounds)

Team Selection (ABCD Draw)

All players signed up will be split into four groups based on Men’s Club Course Handicap:

  • Group A, B, C, D

Groups are formed to keep the number of players in each group as even as possible.
Teams are created by randomly selecting:

  • 1 player from A + 1 from B + 1 from C + 1 from D = one 4-man team

If a Group Is Short (Odd Numbers or No-Show)

If a team is missing a player from one of the groups (A/B/C/D), the team will play the round normally.

After the round, the Scoring Committee will:

  • Randomly draw a replacement player for each missing group from players in that group who played
  • Use that replacement player’s scores to calculate the missing player slot hole-by-hole and total team score

Important: A replacement player may end up on two teams and is eligible for Pro Shop credit earned by either (or both) teams.

Event Play (How to Score It)

  • Every player plays their own ball on every hole
  • Record each player’s gross (actual) score on every hole
  • Convert each player’s gross score to net using their Event Handicap
  • On each hole, count the team’s best 3 net scores (of the 4)

Net Score Rules (Per Hole)

A player’s net score is determined by applying handicap strokes:

  • Subtract 1 stroke on holes where the player receives a stroke
  • Subtract 2 strokes on holes where the player is entitled to two strokes
  • If the player does not receive a stroke on that hole, net = gross

Scorekeeping (Do Both)

  • One player keeps the paper scorecard
  • One player enters gross scores in the scoring app
  • Compare scorecard vs app before submitting in the scoring app

Results / Placement

Final team placement is based on the 18-hole total team net score, as determined by the Scoring Committee.
