Chapman (Modified Alternate Shot)

Format

  • Teams: 2-man team
  • Holes: 18 holes
  • Style of play: Modified alternate shot (two balls in play, “best ball” scoring)
  • Scoring: The team’s best net score is scored on each hole.

Team Handicap Allowance

(See Appendix I for calculation examples.)

  • This event uses a Team Event Handicap, calculated as:
    • 60% of the Men’s Club Course Handicap of the lower-handicap player, plus
    • 40% of the Men’s Club Course Handicap of the higher-handicap player.
  • Allowances follow USGA recommendations for this format.
  • Handicap posting: Scores for handicap will not be recorded for this event because players are not playing their own ball.

Team Selection

  • Players must sign up with a partner.

Event Play

(See Appendix II for examples.)

Two balls are in play on each hole. Partners alternate shots on each ball as follows:

5th Shot Player A Player B

Event Scoring

  • Hole-by-hole entry: Record the lowest gross (actual) score of the two balls in play (“best ball”) for each hole in the online scoring system.
  • After play, the scoring system will calculate the team net score for each hole using the Team Event Handicap.
  • Netting procedure: The team’s gross score is reduced by:
    • 1 stroke (or 2 strokes when warranted) on any hole where the Team Event Handicap is equal to or higher than the hole’s assigned course handicap.
    • If the Team Event Handicap does not warrant a stroke on that hole, the team’s net score equals the gross score.
  • The 18-hole team total is the sum of the net scores on all holes.
  • Final results (order of finish) are based on the 18-hole total team score.

Payouts & Optional Skins

  • Event payouts: Places paid and Pro Shop credit amounts will be announced in advance based on the portion of the Men’s Club budget allocated for this event.
  • Players on winning teams split the Pro Shop credit for that place equally. Credits are applied to each player’s account by The Falls staff after payouts are announced.
  • Optional Team Skins ($20 per team):
    • To enter, the full $20 must be paid by the team (skins are awarded by team for this event).
    • Skins handicap: Skins are calculated at 80% with full pops, capped at a maximum of 18 strokes.
    • Team net score for skins is determined the same way as the team’s hole-by-hole score for the event.
    • Payout: Total skins pot ÷ number of team skins won.
    • Note: There is no skins division by tee box for this event.

Weather Policy

Pro Shop Credits & CTP

  • If at least 40% of players on the published tee sheet for this event decide not to finish due to inclement weather, then any Pro Shop Credits assigned to this event will not be awarded.
  • Those funds will be added to the yearly prize pool to be redistributed via future events.

Skins

  • If your team enters the skins game and tees off, your skins money remains in the pot if the team decides not to finish due to inclement weather.
  • Skins money is refunded only if the course closes due to weather.

Birdie Board

  • Birdie Board does not apply for this event (players are not playing their own ball).

Hole-In-One Pot

  • Hole-in-One eligibility applies to the player who hits the first shot on a hole (tee shot). If that first shot goes in, it counts.

Appendix I: Team Handicap Examples

Example 1

Player A has a Men’s Club Course Handicap of 5 and Player B has a Men’s Club Course Handicap of 14.
Team Event Handicap = (5 × 60%) + (14 × 40%).

  • Player A: 5 × 0.60 = 3.00 → 3
  • Player B: 14 × 0.40 = 5.60 → 6

Team Event Handicap: 3 + 6 = 9

Example 2

Player A has a Men’s Club Course Handicap of 8 and Player B has a Men’s Club Course Handicap of 16.
Team Event Handicap = (8 × 60%) + (16 × 40%).

  • Player A: 8 × 0.60 = 4.80 → 5
  • Player B: 16 × 0.40 = 6.40 → 6

Team Event Handicap: 5 + 6 = 11
