ABCD (Best 2 of 4 Balls)

Format (Quick Overview)

  • Teams: 4-man teams
  • Holes: 18 holes
  • Team Score (per hole): Best 2 net scores (of the 4 net scores) count on each hole
  • Tees: Play the tee box you signed up for in Week 1
  • Individual Skins: Available for this event

Handicap Allowance

  • Event Handicap = 85% of each player’s Men’s Club Course Handicap
  • Allowance follows USGA recommendations for this format
  • Must have a Men’s Club Handicap (minimum 3 posted rounds)

Team Selection (ABCD Draw)

All players signed up will be split into four groups based on Men’s Club Course Handicap:

  • Group A, B, C, D

Groups are formed to keep the number of players in each group as even as possible.
Teams are created by randomly selecting:

  • 1 player from A + 1 from B + 1 from C + 1 from D = one 4-man team

If a Group Is Short (Odd Numbers or No-Show)

If a team is missing a player from one of the groups (A/B/C/D), the team will play the round normally.

After the round, the Scoring Committee will:

  • Randomly draw a replacement player for each missing group from players in that group who played
  • Use that replacement player’s scores to calculate the missing spot(s) hole-by-hole and for the total team score

Important: A replacement player may end up on two teams and is eligible for Pro Shop credit earned by either (or both) team.

How to Play & Score

  • Each player plays their own ball on every hole
  • Record each player’s gross (actual) score on every hole
  • Convert gross to net using the player’s Event Handicap
  • On each hole, the team score is the best 2 net scores of the 4 players

Net Score Rules (Per Hole)

A player’s net score is calculated by applying handicap strokes:

  • Subtract 1 stroke on holes where the player receives a stroke
  • Subtract 2 strokes on holes where the player is entitled to two strokes
  • If the player does not receive a stroke on that hole, net = gross

Scorekeeping (Do Both)

  • One player keeps the paper scorecard
  • One player enters gross scores in the scoring app
  • Compare paper vs app before submitting/uploading

Final Results / Placement

  • Team placement is based on the 18-hole total team score, using the team’s hole-by-hole “best 2 net” totals.

Payouts & Optional Skins

Event Payouts (Pro Shop Credit)

  • Payout places and amounts will be announced in advance

  • ½ pops for skins only
  • Pops capped at 18 total (maximum ½ per hole)

(Exception: see Weather Policy below if the course closes.)

Weather Policy

This is a one-day event with no make-up. Play at your own risk if weather is questionable.

Pro Shop Credit & CTP

If 40% or more of the players on the published tee sheet do not finish due to inclement weather:

  • No Pro Shop credit payout (including CTP) will be paid for this event
  • Those funds roll into the yearly prize pool for future events
  • Teams who finish should still enter scores—those rounds count toward the Men’s Club Handicap Index

Skins (Weather)

  • If you enter skins and tee off, your money remains in the skins pot even if you do not finish due to weather
  • You are eligible for skins only on holes you completed
  • The 60% completion requirement does not apply for skins eligibility
  • Skins money is returned only if the course closes to us due to weather

Birdie Board & Hole-In-One Pot

  • Hole-by-hole results count for the Birdie Board
  • A Hole-In-One counts, even if you don’t finish the round
